Rules and Regulations:

Blinds Up Texas Hold 'em is an easy game to learn but it is very hard to master. BLINDS UP Poker League only plays No-limit Hold 'em, said to be the Rolls Royce of Poker.

Set Up
To begin a game a dealer is chosen by each player drawing a card. The high card wins the deal. Blinds Up Texas Hold 'em Poker League has a dealer that deals the cards at all times The dealer button is placed in front of the dealer. The first player to the left of the dealer is called the Small Blind. The second player to the left of the dealer is the Big Blind. The Blinds are a pair of forced bets that must be made on every hand to ensure there is some action in every hand. In our league the blinds begin at 100/200 and increase every 12 minutes. The Blinds increase every 10 minutes in tournaments starting after 9pm.

The Deal
The Dealer  deals one card to every player starting with the Small Blind followed by a second card. If while dealing a card is accidentally exposed prior to every player receiving their first card, a misdeal is declared and the deck is reshuffled, re-cut and the hand is re-dealt. If a card is exposed after every player has received their first card then the dealer finishes dealing everyone a second card then replaces the exposed card with another. The exposed card then becomes the first burn card. If more than one card was exposed a misdeal is declared

Starting with the player to the left of the Big Blind, a round of betting takes place. Players have up to three options. They may call by matching the big blind or previous raises, raise the pot, or fold. Once a player has said  they may not raise. Verbal declarations are binding. Once a player’s chips have been placed beyond the yellow line they are considered in play and may not be removed. Once a player folds they are out of the hand. At no time may a player retrieve his cards and remain in the hand. To raise a pot, a bet at least equal to the amount of the blind must be made. For example, if the Big Blind is 200, the minimum raise would be 400 on top of the big blind for a bet of 400. The player would say “Raising to 400.  A player may make a bet up to the full amount of their chips. A player may not win more than the amount of the chips they had in play. In instances where three players are in a pot and two have more chips than the third player, a side pot will be contested between the other two players.

The Flop
Once every player has acted, the dealer deals one card off to the side face down. This is the “burncard” and is not in play. The Dealer then turns the next three cards face up. These cards begin the five community cards that everyone may use and are called the “Flop” Once the three cards have been dealt another round of betting begins starting with the first person to the left of the dealer that is still in the hand. Now the player’s options are to check if no bets have been made, raise the pot, call the current bet or fold.

The Turn
Once every player in the hand has acted, the Dealer burns another card. The Dealer then turns a fourth card face up. This card is called the “Turn
” This begins another round of betting.

The River
Once every player in the hand has acted, the Dealer burns another card. The Dealer then turns the fifth and final card face up. This card is called the “River” This begins the final round of betting.

The Showdown
After all the betting has been completed, all players still in the hand must turn over their cards to determine the winner. The best five-card hand between the player’s two hole cards and the five community cards wins the pot. All five cards are used to determine the winner. For example, if two players each have a pair of Aces but the next highest card for player #1 is a jack, and player #2 has a 10 then player #1 wins. The Jack and the ten are called “Kickers” In the case of a tied hand the pot is split between those players. In the event of an odd chip, the chip is given to the first player involved to the left of the dealer.  At the conclusion of the hand the deal and both blinds move one seat to the left and another hand is dealt.

Side Pots
A player may only win the value of his chips from other players. If three players are involved in a hand and two have more chips in the pot than the third player, the other two players are competing for a side pot. Care should be taken to ensure that the pots are correct before the next round of a hand is played. Whenever something is in question please consult with the Tournament Director/ Dealer before continuing.  All decisions by the Tournament Director are final. If Director is unavailable the Dealer has final judgment.

Showing and Mucking
If a player’s bet forces all other players to fold, the player is under no obligation to show his cards. The player can simply “muck
them with all the other cards that have been folded. In the Showdown, the players must show both cards to determine the winner. Once a player is all-in and no more betting could possibly be made on a hand, all players involved must show their cards.

The Break
There will be a 5 minute break following the 500/1000 blinds.

Chipping Up
During the break, all 100 chips will be converted to 500 chips. We always round up so 200 in chips will be converted to 500.

Eliminating Tables

As the tournament progresses players may be told to move to a different table. The Tournament Director will always make an effort for a table to never have less than 6 players. All players at the table will be dealt a card except the dealer and the two blinds. The Tournament Director will move players around based on the highest cards drawn. Players must move to their bleep tables. When joining the new table the player may not inherit the small blind or the deal. The player must sit out until both have passed him. He may however inherit the big blind.
As the players dwindle it will become necessary for a table to continue play with only five or sometimes four players. Play at these tables should not slow down in an effort to outlast the other tables. The Tournament Director will ensure that play maintains its pace.

Getting Knocked Out of the Blinds or the Deal
If a player who was to be the next dealer is eliminated in the previous hand, the previous dealer will deal the hand. If the next Big Blind was eliminated the Big Blind simply moves to the next player. If the next Small Blind was eliminated the next hand will be played without a small blind, and the dealer will deal the next two hands. If any confusion arises please consult the Tournament Director.

The Final Table
The final table will be formed when ten players remain.. Each player will be high carded to determine the location of the dealer button. Blinds at the final table will start at the next level and increase every 10 minutes. The top three players at the final table will earn points.

Players Away from the Table
If a player is not at the table to act when it is their turn their cards are to be folded or “mucked
Another player is never allowed to play out the hand in their absence.

Eating, Drinking, Smoking, and Cursing
Eating and drinking are allowed at the tables. When eating, please make an effort to keep the table and the cards clean. Drinking is also allowed but please be careful not to spill any beverages on either the tables or the fixtures of our hosts. Smoking is subject to the policies of our hosts. League members must always follow the rules of the locations. Failure to do so will result in disqualification and removal from the location. In the event a player must leave a tournament, his chips will be blinded out. The player’s chips will continue to be posted in the blinds and the hand will be folded to any raise. Please no cursing. Try and be aware of your surroundings and be courteous towards our hosts at all times. The Tournament Director/Dealer will allow one warning before removing a player. The Director/Dealer will always abide by the wishes of the host location in these matters. In addition, excessive trash talking to other players will not be tolerated. The games are meant to be friendly events. Try to take your bad beats with class and win with modesty. If players do not follow these rules, they will be eliminated from the tournament and asked to leave the venue. Again, all decisions of the Tournament Director/Dealer are final.

Alternate players
Players that arrive late or fail to find a seat prior to the start of the tournament may begin playing as soon as a seat becomes available. Players without seats must contact the Tournament Director/Dealer who will have a standby list. They will be seated as soon as possible. Alternate players will be allowed to enter play anytime during the first hour of a tournament. No Alternates may enter a tournament after the break. Once a standby enters the tournament they must post the current big blind regardless of their seating position. We do not short stack our standby players. The league will always have their available space allocated to them by the host locations. We will make every effort to seat as many as possible at the start of a tournament.
